This charming fishing village has surprisingly kept much of its original charm considering its location opposite the popular tourist destinations of Portimao and Praia da Rocha and remains largely unspoilt.
The attractive main square is lined with cafes perfect as a spot to lunch while you watch the fishermen unload their catch!
Follow the cobbled streets past the quaint white cottages and you will discover Ferragudo’s church where you can experience amazing views across the Arade river to Portimao and its closest beach Praia de Angrinha. It is at the Southern end of this beach that the Medieval Castelo de Sao de Arade sits, built to protect the coast from Pirates.
Undoubtably the beast beach here is Praia Grande which is situated on the other side of the Castelo, the waters here are fairly calm for swimming as the beach faces the estuary, there are also a good array of water sports offered here as well as a couple of good beach bars and a small children’s playground.
