Elegant Cascais sits on the beautiful Lisbon coastline, a traditional fishing seaside town, it was in past days frequented by Portuguese nobility, these days the it is a pleasing mixture of 19th Century architecture and modern tourist facilities – where old and new meet.
The small city is home to many lavish mansions and well as beautiful beaches which get very busy at the weekends with day trippers from nearby Lisbon. The pedestrianised old town is home to boutique shops and fish restaurants for which Cascais is famous, there are also plenty of bars giving a lively feel to the evenings.
Climb the Santa Marta lighthouse built in 1867, the view from the top is breath taking and there is a small museum up here with information about Portuguese lighthouses and their keepers.
