Estoi is a charming historic little town just a 10k drive inland from Faro. The town itself is a typical Algarvian mix of whitewashed houses topped with terracotta roofs, cobbled streets and a main square lined with cafes, restaurants and bars.
Estoi can trace its roots back to the Roman era and you can visit the recently open museum at the ancient Roman Villa site of Milreu in Estoi. Milreu Roman Villa is the most important Roman archaeological site in the Algarve. There is also a very good museum on site.
Estoi palace and the Pousada Palácio Estói. The former 18th-century palace has been converted into a 4 star hotel with a restaurant, a bar 2 pools and spa. The Pousada Palácio Estói is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
In all Estoi is definately worth a visit if you are in the area or passing through, it may not fill a whole day but would be well worth it.
