Paxos is the smallest of the Ionian Islands and is just nine miles off the southern tip of Corfu. The island is well equipped for peaceful and relaxing holidays: indented beaches, small coves, lush green hills full of olive trees, imposing rocks and sea caves. As the island is so small, visitors can explore the whole island on foot.
The capital of Paxis is Gaios, a picturesque village by the sea. Its pretty port is hidden behind two tiny isles. On the first, the "isle of Virgin Mary "or" Nissaki ", there is the pretty and historic monument of "Panagia Vellianiton ".
The second, Agios Nikolaos, there is a natural jetty of the port and it hides away the town and the boats from the ship passing by. On Agios Nikolaos isle there are two small churches, Agios Nikolaos and Agios Ioannis and the old Venetian castle (1423).
To the southeast of Paxos is a beautiful small island well-known for its famous beaches, Antipaxos. One of the most beautiful beaches in Greece is the exotic beach of Voutoumi. It is also worth visiting Vrika and Mesovrika beaches. The small port connecting Antipaxos to Paxos is known as Agrapidia.
