Villa Chestnut is a magnificent 8 bedroom Premier Villa set in the picturesque Tuscan countryside outside Florence. This exceptional property boasts a rich history spanning over 1,000 years, with famous historical figures among its distinguished former owners. Accommodating up to 16 guests, this luxury villa offers an authentic Tuscan experience in one of Italy's most celebrated regions.
The estate's remarkable history was first recorded in 970 when it belonged to the Bishop of Volterra. The property witnessed significant historical events, including damage during military conflicts in 1430 when Piccinino's troops sacked the estate, and again in June 1554 when the Sienese army spent the night here. The property originally housed a traditional inn known as the 'Osteria Vecchia', which was later relocated to more spacious premises beside the provincial road.
Around 1600, the Senatoria dei Rinuccini family from Florence constructed the farm buildings, using the estate both as their family residence and to manage their extensive properties in the surrounding area. In approximately 1815, ownership passed to the prestigious Marchesi Capponi of Florence. The Grand Duke of Tuscany frequently visited the villa with his retinue, often dining at the property with the Capponi family. In 1834, the estate transferred to Marchese Attilio Incontri as part of the dowry from his wife, Donna Ortensia, daughter of Marchese Gino Capponi.
Villa Chestnut sits on Monte Cornocchia beside the historic provincial road to Volterra, known as the 'Volterrana'. The property is positioned near a significant crossroads where roads lead to Volterra, San Vivaldo and Castelfiorentino. This strategic location marks the meeting point of 3 beautiful valleys: the Elsa, the Evola and the Era. Historically, this spot defined the boundaries between 3 ancient territories in the municipalities of Pisa, Florence and Volterra. In 1308, delegates from the 3 Republics established the territorial boundaries between the districts of Volterra and San Gimignano at this very location.
This stunning Tuscan villa comprises 4 ensuite double bedrooms and 4 ensuite twin bedrooms, providing comfortable accommodation for up to 16 guests. The villa features a fully equipped kitchen with cooker, oven, fridge, freezer and dishwasher, along with spacious living rooms perfect for gathering with family and friends.
The main mansion house covers 368 square metres on the ground floor and 375 square metres on the first floor. In addition to the main villa, the property includes 14 independent apartments, each with private outdoor dining areas, offering flexibility for larger groups or extended families visiting Tuscany.
Set within an extensive private park, Villa Chestnut offers outstanding leisure facilities including a beautiful lake and a magnificent 20x10 metre swimming pool. Golf enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to Castelfalfi Golf Club, one of Tuscany's premier golf courses.
Guests have access to an authentic Tuscan trattoria and a convenient bar and pizzeria on the estate. Here you can purchase groceries and exceptional local gastronomic products including Tuscan wine, extra virgin olive oil, honey and grappa, allowing you to experience the finest flavours of the region during your stay.
Villa Chestnut offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the beauty, history and luxury of Tuscany. Whether you're planning a family celebration, a reunion with friends, or simply seeking an authentic Italian villa holiday near Florence, this 8 bedroom historic estate provides the perfect setting for an unforgettable stay in the heart of Tuscany.
